These are some of the facts that exist in Puntland 1. The previous presidents of Puntland since 1998 got into power by bribing the tribal chiefs, representatives in the parliament and using tribal alliances, allegiances or loyalties. It has reached a stage where most of the parliamentarians are for sale to the highest bidder. 2. The candidates are raising funds not for media advertisements but for bribing the Parliament to vote for them. 3. They are also raising funds to bribe some tribal chiefs in order to persuade their representatives to vote for a specific candidate. 4. Oil deal makers companies are involved to make sure that the previous illegal deals are maintained. 5. Foreign governments such as Libya, Iran, Syria, Sudan, Eritrea, Yemen, Djibouti, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia are involved in Puntland and sponsor certain candidates for their own interests. 6. Non Puntlander Somali tribes are sponsoring and supporting certain candidates for their own political gain. 7. Certain candidates own money-printing machines that print Somali shilling currency and are flooding the market with worthless money thereby creating a high inflation rate. This is hurting the people and making necessities such as food hard to buy. 8. Some candidates are importing Somali money printed abroad illegally. 9. The state or government of Puntland is also printing money (illegally). The legal right of printing money is reserved only to the Somali Transitional Federal Government (TFG). |
